Washington's 5th District
Washington State’s 5th congressional district is located in Eastern Washington. This beautiful area includes rolling prairies, rugged mountains, and numerous lakes. Canada is our neighbor to the north, Idaho to the east, and Oregon borders us to the south.
The 12 counties in our district cover approximately 25,000 square miles of forests, recreational lakes and mountains, golf courses, and farm land. Our primary industries include health care, wine, higher education, agriculture, and high-tech companies, with our economy based on resources and manufacturing. Washington State University, Gonzaga University, Whitworth, Whitman, and Eastern Washington University provide the region with research and doctoral opportunities, which promote economic growth for the district.
Spokane, with a population of 200,000, is the largest city between Seattle and Minneapolis. Fairchild Air Force base, the largest tanker refueling base West of the Rockies, is the largest employer in Spokane County.
